7 Day Gibb River
Mitchell Plateau Discovery
This tour will take you along the
Gibb River Road in air conditioned purpose built 4WD's. Highlights include
Windjana Gorge, Tunnel Creek, Bells, Manning, Mitchell Plateau, Emma
Gorge. See this part of Australia and you will never forget it's beauty!
(Note: this tour operates in both directions)

DAY 1:
Depart Kununurra on our journey along the famous Gibb
River Road, our first stop will be Zebedee Springs on El Questro Station,
for a morning soak in the warm thermal spring. A walk to stunning Emma
Gorge will follow, with a rewarding swim in the crystal clear waters. We
then make our way through the stunning Cockburn Ranges across the
Pentecost River on our way to Home Valley Station. Overnight Home Valley (L/D).
DAY 2:
This morning we leave the Gibb River Road and travel on Kalumburu Road to
Mitchell Plateau visiting Drysdale River Station, our camp will be on the banks of
the river. An afternoon dip here and the chance to explore the area is a
must. Overnight King Edward River (B/L/D).
DAY
3: We make full use of our 4WD capability to take us to the
Mitchell Falls. Liverstonia Fan Palms abound in this region. After
arriving at the car park we trek to Merton and Mitchell Falls to
discover some amazing aboriginal rock art and beautiful scenery. An
afternoon optional helicopter flight is recommended to return you to the
car park. Late afternoon we return to our bush camp at King Edward River.
DAY 4: Our morning is spent exploring
Aboriginal
art in the area before departing our bush camp on the river bank,
returning to Kalumburu Road on our journey back to join the Gibb River
Road. Overnight Mt Barnett Station (B/L/D).
DAY 5: Early rise this morning for our walk to
Manning Gorge. For those who are feeling energetic, a well deserved swim
and the sight of these cascading falls is your reward. After lunch our
journey continues to Galvan's Gorge (this gorge will tempt our swimmers) a
stop at Imintji store, then on to Bells Gorge. Overnight Bells Gorge
(B/L/D).
DAY 6: Another
early morning walk is on the itinerary to Bells Gorge. This gorge is
regarded as the jewel of the Gibb River Road. We later wind our way
through the beautiful scenery of the Kimberley's highest mountain range,
The King Leopold, towards our next destination, Windjana Gorge.

DAY 7: An early morning
visit to Windjana Gorge is quite an experience. We then gather our torches
and bathers for our walk through Tunnel Creek. This amazing tunnel cuts
through the Napier Range and is rich in history, your guide will tell you about the
legend of Jundamurra. This afternoon we must reluctantly leave the Gibb
River Road behind and travel to Broome, visiting the Derby prison tree and
crossing the mighty Fitzroy River on the way. (B/L) |
