Malekula Island - Malog Bungalows

Accommodation/Packages/Activities

Malekula Island has a name that means, "bad bottom" , but we are not entirely sure why!  It is the second largest of the islands, with a population of around 20,000 and a huge diversity of local cultures (over 30 distinct languages!). Two of the major culture groups are the Big Nambas and Small Nambas. Nambas being the penis sheaths that they wear.

The Tribes still have a very strong belief in the Spirit World and ancient traditions are still followed, although fortunately not cannibalism. You can however still trek to ancient cannibal sites. Sand drawings, tall head figures, ritual objects and art, point to this being one of the oldest cultures in the Pacific Islands.

Malog Bungalows are situated on Uluveo Island which is the most important Island in the gorgeous Maskelyne group of  Islands. The main village is Peskarus, which is a lovely friendly village where they still live as they have for centuries.

Maskelin Islands are lovely islands and many visitors just want to walk along their lovely beaches, and spend their time snorkeling around the bungalows area. however there are also many other activities.

Arriving at the Lamap Airport you will be transferred by truck and then boat to Peskarus, Uluveo island just off the coast, where these Bungalows are situated. They are the most up market accommodation on the Maskelyne Islands, however remember we are talking Vanuatu standards!

Malog has a big traditional bungalow divided into three rooms, 1 single and 2 doubles. There are mosquito nets, however no electricity, so hurricane lamps provided.
