Royal Sunset Island Resort is located on ‘Atatà island 7 miles from the main island of Tongatapu, where the Kingdom of Tonga’s capital Nuku’alofa and the Fua’amotu international airport are situated. The resort is located on the southern tip of the island and features 16 beachfront fales, swimming pool, tennis court island style and a polynesian style restaurant and bar.

The peculiar shape of the island make this place unique. The long tiny land extending from the main island body, hosting a fishing village, is the location of the resort. This sharing of Atatà gives Royal Sunset a cultural aspect rarely found in other tourist destinations. The friendly villagers let guests enjoy local entertainment, kava parties, and many aspects of the relaxed fakatonga, the Tongan way. In the village visitors can find two churches, a school, and a plantation.

The Western Fales have been recently renewed and face the Sunset. There are also two Superior Fales located on the Western side which are designed for exta comfort for a maximum of 2 people. 

A new 40' catamaran transfers guests to the Royal Sunset Resort on 'Atata Island. The property is set in an eight acre tropical garden only seven miles away from downtown Nuku'alofa.

This resort provides the best in local entertainment, great friendly service, superb cuisine, relaxed and appealing bar. Here you will find all the marine activities associated with off-shore islands. Surfing in Tonga- it's one of the last unexplored locations in the world, with it's endless reefs and can give to surfers "magic emotions"! ET, RAZORS, LOONEYS are just some of the spots 10 minutes by boat from the resort. October to April is the best time with north swells.

Windsurfing & Kitesurfing in Tonga -The lagoon surrounding the island, the south-east trade winds, the water temperature and colors makes Atatà a real paradise for those loving FREESYLE and KITESURFING. For WAVE RIDING enthusiasts the off-shore reefs are the mecca of extreme windsurfing.

Whale watching in Tonga - From July to October humpback whales migrates from cold south to warmerTonga's water. During this period they don't feed, they come here to calf and mate. The singing males can be clearly heard from underwater and whales encountered on their migration path here at Atatà.
